Crimes of Irony…

By machpie

I drove home from a meeting at work this afternoon, and pulling into my drive noticed somebody had left a leaflet in my mailbox.  “Oh neat,” I remarked to myself, “somebody climbed all the way up my front steps to litter in my mailbox…”  (The mail wouldn’t have run yet).  What fun.

So as I’m walking to the front door I’m mulling over the nature of the (supposedly) Federal crime of leaving anything but mail in a mailbox.  I grab the offending propaganda, and it turns out to be–wait for it–an official Louisville Metro Police Department Crime Prevention Information tract!  And right on the front is the number for the Crime Tip Hotline.  If I call it in, think they’ll arrest themselves…?

I wish I’d known about the whole “federal offense” thing when I was a kid and my mom made me hand deliver all of her Christmas cards around the neighborhood. That would have ranked up there with my “God doesn’t care how we dress!” excuse for not dressing up for church. Now I’m too old for that sort of thing to be cute. And, fortunately, I make myself scarce during Christmas card delivery time. :)

I am picturing an awesome new Xmas flick: The Worst Christmas Ever (’cause what could be more sad than a cute lil’ sniveling 8 year old spending Christmas morning in the Federal Pen?
